Christmas time is approaching and I would just like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Wonderful New Year! As the years pass the true purpose of Christmas seems to be passing as well. Now the main reason why we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Others will tell you that Christmas was originally a pagan festival. Whatever others say the true meaning in our hearts is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Since the birth of Jesus, it has been a tradition to acknowledge Him this way. It’s just like celebrating your birthday! We are all happy that you are born, so we celebrate a birthday every year. Now I know some people don’t celebrate birthdays for various reasons, but you know what I’m saying.
I was speaking to this lady from Holland and she told me that originally in Holland they had two days in December that they would celebrate. One was the birth of Jesus and the second would be the giving of gifts like Saint Nick started. Unfortunately the two have been combined into one day now and that’s Dec 25th. How they got combined who knows.
I think it is a good idea if you have kids, you should try to teach them about the true meaning of Christmas and not just the giving of gifts. You don’t want your kids to get too materialistic or greedy at Christmas time.
The spirit of Christmas should be in our hearts, so we should be more kind to people now. Really it shouldn’t be just over the holidays but apart of our daily lives. Sometimes even in summer I will play Christmas songs to remind me of that lovely time of year. It makes me be thankful for having Jesus in my life.
I once heard this lovely Christmas song called, “Jesus is the reason for the season.” It rhymes! As this season approaches lets make an effort to be kind to other people and demonstrate the spirit of Christmas!
Take care and have a wonderful holiday season!
